Facade transformation with a focus on safety, sustainability and appearance

In Woolwich, London, the Tesco Residential Building has been completely refurbished thanks to a large-scale cladding project. Led by Willmott Dixon Construction Limited and drawing on Sorba’s expertise, the building has been given a modern and safe facade that meets the highest standards in terms of fire safety, energy performance and aesthetics.

Fire safety as a priority

The refurbishment of the façade forms part of a wider approach to making buildings in the United Kingdom safer, following the tightening of regulations. The existing façade system no longer met current standards and has been completely removed.

Sorba managed the entire process: from engineering and production to installation and handover of the new façade. Only fire-resistant materials were used, ensuring the building now complies with the Building Safety Act and the highest safety standards.

Advanced materials and construction methods

The new façade consists of a non-combustible façade system, comprising aluminium panels with a fire-retardant core combined with mineral wool insulation. These materials offer both optimal fire safety and excellent thermal performance.

Thanks to Sorba’s smart engineering and meticulous planning, the installation could be carried out with minimal disruption to residents. Special scaffolding and safety measures ensured the project was completed safely.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

In addition to safety, sustainability played a key role. The new façade has significantly improved the building’s energy performance, enabling residents to benefit from lower energy consumption and a smaller carbon footprint.

The materials used are not only sustainable and low-maintenance, but also largely recyclable, thereby limiting the impact on the environment. Furthermore, the old façade was carefully dismantled and disposed of responsibly.

The perfect finish

For the residents of Woolwich, this project means more than just a safe façade. It instils confidence in the future and demonstrates a serious commitment to investing in safe and sustainable homes. Furthermore, the project enhances the value of the building and the appeal of the neighbourhood.

The cladding project on the Tesco Residential Building in Woolwich is a successful example of how safety, sustainability and aesthetics come together. Thanks to the collaboration between Willmott Dixon Construction Limited and Sorba, there is now a building that fully complies with the strictest standards and is ready for the future.
